Two vintage Banjara Indian temple tassel style pendants on a single piece of cord. These interesting little pieces can be seen suspended near the temples of any traditionally dressed Banjara / Lambani woman.  These two are just as they came, still attached to the original cords.  Pendant pieces do not match. Nicely made little bells for adding interest to boho clothing and accessories, or adorning a dance costume.

Costuming and jewelry adornment has been worn in India for over 5,000 years.  Jewelry not only has traditional and aesthetic value, but is also considered a source of security in times of financial crisis. The amount and types of jewelry owned by a woman signifies her status in society.  The beauty of Indian jewelry lies in the uniqueness of its design and the workmanship involved in creating it.  Women of the Banjara, or Lambani, use brightly colored fabrics, shisha mirror work, beads and shells to embellish every part of their clothing and personal accessories. Mirrors and cowrie shells are added to the edges of blouses and hems of skirts and incorporated  into tassels and jewelry. Every piece of fabric has at least some mirror work or embroidery to attract the eye. Banjara women are holding tightly to their ancient modes of dress, which are said to be the most colorful and elaborate of any tribe in India. This exuberance in adornment is even extended to their animals!

A NOTE ON THE CONDITION OF TRIBAL ITEMS: Our jewelry is used tribal jewelry, from faraway lands. As used pieces the condition of our items will reflect their prior lives as treasured tribal pieces. Please know that we strive to maintain the tribal allure of our items and therefore we do not clean or repair these pieces in any way. We leave that choice to the buyer, as each may prefer something different. This not only maintains the old, tribal look of each piece that our belly dance customers seek, but also preserves the value of a piece that cleaning might destroy.
