Large pair of lightweight metal fibula pins and connecting pendants. These pins are new pieces made by tribal craftsmen. This full set is made in a style of jewelry set in the Ida Ou Nadif region of Morocco. In North Africa, women traditionally wear a garment made from a long piece of fabric that is wrapped around the body. The ends are fastened at the shoulders with embellished pins like these - the original safety pin! The pin is pushed through the two pieces of fabric and back out again, then the ring is turned under the pin to hold securely. A great look for renaissance faire costuming or incorporate into your belly dance costume for a unique embellishment.
This is Berber jewelry from the Ida Ou Nadif region in Morocco. Berber jewelry is large, showy, colorful and FUN! It often includes lots of detail like enamel in bright colors, large jewels and coins. It represents much more than simply adornment. Each piece can signify fertility, wealth, social status and marital status. The Berbers or Imazighen (‘Free people’; plural of Amazigh) are the original inhabitants of North Africa. They speak a number of related languages and share a common cultural heritage. Most Berbers now days live in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Mali, Mauritania and Niger.
